Transform stale bread into a decadent breakfast. Using thick slices of Brioche or Challah allows the bread to soak up the rich custard without falling apart.
- In a wide shallow dish, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a pinch of nutmeg.
- Slice the brioche into 1-inch thick slices.
- Dip each slice into the custard mixture, letting it soak for about 10-15 seconds per side. Do not oversoak or it will be soggy.
- Melt a tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the bread slices for 3-4 minutes per side until deeply golden and crispy.
- Serve warm with maple syrup, fresh berries, and a dusting of powdered sugar.
